Having come from a mainly PS2 background, perhaps i had higher hopes than usual for GRID after investing in a decent-spec PC.
Unfortunately as i was to find, GRID represents a backward step for the franchise.

The first thing you notice and the most impressive part of the game are the graphics, they are simply stunning. However, great graphics alone do not making a great game.
While the career structure and variety of racing classes is impressive, actually playing the game is a painful experience.

I was prepared for a more arcade-y feel, but what i found was very disappointing. This game has one of the worst handling models i've ever tried. Fair enough if they want to make their games more accessible to the masses by taking out things like setup changes, but the least they could do is get the basic handling right so that the features aren't missed.
The majority of the cars seem to have a rear-end supported on a pair of locking castor's where at random the back will suddenly jerk out of line mid-corner. And you won't be able to catch it with any finesse since the controls are appalling.

I was using a game-pad that i've been able to find a setup for on every other driving game i play, but on GRID i was still adjusting the sensitivity and dead-zone after 8 hours of playing because they seemed to change themselves between cars and tracks.
The game at it's core is easy, though the truly dreadful handling makes it harder and eventually a chore.

Overall, a lot of potential and excitement quickly turned into a deep feeling of disappointment. Maybe a score of 6 is a bit harsh, but i expected more from this franchise.
Race Driver 3 remains king of the hill for having the best balance between simulation and accessibility.
